Should I host with my Web Developer?

We’re often asked this question, and our answer is never yes or no as it’s not as simple as that. The question you need to ask is "What kind of support do I expect?" 

  • Do you want to pay a reduced rate for web design and pay an ongoing premium for hosting that may lack technical support.
  • Do you want to be able to call us at 5:30 Friday afternoon to resolve an email issue?
  • Are you working on your website on a Saturday morning and having trouble uploading a file - would you like to speak with someone?

We work closely with many web developers

Hosti looks after the client bases of quite a few web developers who have realised that their expertise is design and strategy, not hosting.  In fact they’ve realised it’s better for their reputation to let Hosti manage their clients' hosting requirements.

Unfortunately for some web developers, hosting is a secondary concern that is simply there to give them an extra income stream.  Often they sub-lease servers that can be based overseas and where they sometimes have minimal control.  Their primary focus is web design, not tech support.  Our goal is to provide you with reliable hosting with peerless tech support - nothing more and nothing less.

Things you need to find out

  • Am I locked into a plan with my web developer? If so, what are the terms?
  • Am I able to change to another hosting provider at any time?
  • Will I own the copyright for the website or will my web designer?

 

Call us to see whether your website software is compatible with Hosti Servers. It is highly unlikely that your site cannot be hosted by Hosti (or any other hosting company) except only if your web designer has used specialised custom software.
